   This elementary school used the K-12 curriculum given by their education department of the Philippine. The pupils start their studies from kindergarten until grade 12.

        I.            Learning Competency
The learners should be able to enumerate what to do before, during, and after volcanic eruptions (S6ES-IVb-2).

     II.            Specific Learning Objectives
During and at the end of the lesson, the grade 6 pupils must have:
A.     enumerated what to do before, during, and after volcanic eruptions.
B.     demonstrated the safety drill before, during, and after volcanic eruptions.
C.     be aware on the safety precautions before, during, and after volcanic eruptions.

Teacher: Good afternoon Grade 6!

Students: Good afternoon Ma’am!

3. Reminding Class Rules *
           
Teacher: *pasted a cartolina on the blackboard*

Student: What is that Ma’am?

Teacher: Very good question! Before we formally start, let me introduce to you the “Nomor Rules”
Number 1 is Satu= stand up
Number 2 is Dua = Sit down
Number 3 is Tiga = Keep silent and listen

Are we all clear Grade 6?

Students: Yes Ma’am!


A.     Lesson Proper
1.      Engagement
Teacher: Very good! So, I’ve noticed that most of you are fond of playing games. Am I right?

Students: You’re right Ma’am!

Teacher: Ok, now we are going to play the Volcano Puzzle. Okay?

Students:  Okay ma’am!

Teacher: I will read to you the mechanics of the game. So, everybody listen. Ok?

Students: Okay ma’am!


Mechanics:
1.      I will divide the class into 8 groups and I want you to sit with your group mates and form a circle.
2.      Each group will be given a picture that was cut into pieces.
3.      The group who can solve/form the puzzle pieces first will receive 5 points.
4.      Each group will choose a representative to say something about the picture.

      *After the game*

Teacher: What have you learned about the game?

Student 1: it really needs focus

Student 2: These pictures are part of the lesson this afternoon.

A.     Group Activity
Teacher: This time, I will divide the class into 3 groups and I want you to sit with your group mates and form a circle.

Students: Okay ma’am

Teacher: This time we are going to experience on how to demonstrate the safety drill before, during, and after volcanic eruptions.

Students : *yells excitedly*

Teacher: Okay, now I’ll read to you the mechanics and rubrics on how to demonstrate the safety drill before, during and after volcanic eruption. So please listen. Okay?

Students: Yes, Ma’am!

Techer: *reads the rubrics*






Mechanics:
1.      I will divide the class into three groups.
2.      Each group will choose their leader.
3.      The leader of the group will come In front and get your topic that you will present in front of the class.
4.      Then I will post the rubrics for your presentation.
5.      You will be given 10 minutes to practice their presentation.
Are you ready Grade 6?

Students: Yes we are!
Students: *Follow the teacher’s direction*

                        Teacher: What have you learned from the activity?

Student 1: we need to be aware on the safety precautions before, during, and after the volcanic eruption.

Teacher: Who among you have experienced volcanic eruption?

Student: (The pupils will raise their hands)

Teacher: Today I’ll show you a video about the safety precautions before, during and after volcanic eruptions.

Ask
1.      Why must we need to evacuate before volcano erupts?
We need to evacuate before volcano erupts because it is not safe to stay at home and waiting for the volcano to erupt could be very dangerous to your life and in your health.

2.      Why do we need to stay away from an empting volcano?
Because the literal blast of a volcano can travel many miles away.

3.      Who can give me 3 kinds of the safety precautions during volcanic eruption?
·         Avoid areas near the slopes of the volcano. Lava could flow near the slopes.
·         If caught indoors, close all windows, doors, and other openings. Remain indoors.
·         If caught outdoors, protect your head from rocks and immediately run indoors.
·         Avoid low-lying areas where lava flow could and reach and poisonous gases can collect.
·         Wear long-sleeved shirts and a pair of pants to protect you from volcanic dust. Use a dust mask to protect your eyes or hold a damp cloth over your face.
·         Never watch an erupting volcano. Stay away from it. A lateral blast of a volcano can travel many miles away.
·         Avoid mudflows. Mudflows occur when rain falls and mixes with ashes and debris. Stay away from bridge and streams to avoid mudflow.

4.      What we must to do if we have a respiratory ailment?
Stay indoors to avoid inhaling dust and ash. Follow local health officials. Seek advice if it is safe to go outside.

5.      Who can give me 2 kinds of safety precautions before, during and after volcanic eruption?
Before :
·         Learn about your community’s warning system and develop an emergency communication plan. If there is none, work with your community and develop one.
·         Prepare disaster supplies or a survival kit.
During:
·         Avoid areas near the slopes of the volcano. Lava could flow near the slopes.
·         If caught indoors, close all windows, doors, and other openings. Remain indoors.
After :
·         Listen to battery-powered radio or television for the latest emergency information.
·         Stay away from volcanic ash fall. When outside, protect your eyes, mouth, and nose from volcanic ash falls. Wear goggles to protect your eyes and use a damp cloth to protect your mouth and nose.

Directions: In a ¼ sheet of paper. Identify the precautionary measure if is DURING, BEFORE or AFTER the volcanic eruption.

After               1. Clear your house from ash fall or dust.
After               2. Stay away from volcanic ash fall.
Before 3. Evacuate before volcano erupts.
After               4. If you have a respiratory ailment, stay indoors to avoid inhaling dust and ash.
During 5. Never watch an erupting volcano.
After               6. Wear goggles to protect your eyes and use a damp cloth to protect your mouth and nose.
After               7. Listen to battery-powered radio or television for the latest emergency information
Before             8. Put all household materials inside your house and bring animals and livestock into closed shelters.
After               9. When outside, protect your eyes, mouth, and nose from volcanic ash falls.
Before 10. Prepare disaster supplies or a survival kit.
